brake lights?

when i step on the brakes of my 1996 chevy lumina van they do not come on. could you please tell me what the problem is and how to fix it.

First you need to check all the fuses ...you need to drop the drivers side kick panel and find the brake switch ...might just need to be adjusted ,,,it will need to have voltage going into the switch and when brakes applied voltage gong out ...
just need to find out which is the brake switch because you`ll have a cruise switch also .....
