How do I fix my Thomson set top box?

I have an amber light and I can't do anything with it now. I have tried unplugging etc etc and occasionally other lights flash but it always reverts to the amber. It has been in daily use for over a year with no problems at all.

I have a Thomson Set Top Box CV3 purchased August 2013 from Dick Smith.
Everything worked fine and recorded well as supposed to do, until, and I suspect it was after it told me about a Software update. Since then (if that is what happened) It will not record to the hard drive only a stick which only holds about 3 hours, When I try to record on the hard drive it tells me to "format the disc". I have tried the help line who told me to switch off and remove plug overnight and see if that fixes it, This I did for about 12 hours and then I restored factory settings. Still no result. So I phoned again and I was told as it is still under warranty then I should return it to them in Melbourne for repair. Not really a good idea, All I need is for someone to tell me how to reset the disc(I suppose they mean the hard drive). I have this plugged through a VHS recorder DVD Burner and of course to TV. I use this item daily and it would be difficult for me to unplug it and plug in things so I could just watch the TV, so I am loathe to move it.

To re format the hard drive if you no longer want TUTV the following worked for me and removed 1 recorded program that froze the system when I tried to delete it. First go onto to TUTV and delete ALL the chanles. Go onto menue, select set up, select help, then press the green button. This brings up hidden advanced info. Press the blue button to get up the 'format hard drive' option. This should give you 90% free space. You will lose the Series link until the EPG updates at about 11.30pm.

Today, 14th of October 09 I switched on as normal and the set box invited me to update. So I followed the instructions which said it might take 10 minutes. I reached the point where it said three minutes to go. I touched nothing at all as I was told. Then it started stating that there were many thousands of minutes to go and then the whole thing shut down. I cannot revive it. The red light is on but that is it

Hi guys - Updatere: 'Frozen Thomson Box' Following advice as below I have just managed to rescue my box and ALL previous recordings. Had to try several times but the following finally worked ! Thanks for advice !

"Any way check out the top up tv website. Click on help centre and under "setup & trouble shooting" is some advice of what to do if you have a solid / flashing amber light. Wife was calling out the instructions, but it was the one that says switch off for 20 sec.
Switch back on whilst holding down the power-on button on the front of the box, until a led flashes.
Release power-on button and press menu followed by OK in quick succession. Leave for 60 seconds.
Tried this three times, and it finally worked (after having the machine switched off for two to three minutes rather than just 20 sec-not sure if thats what did the trick)
Apparently resets to previous software version, the new upgrade should then kick in again later. "

Same problem with mine, 1 month out of warrenty ! I smell a conspiracy !!. If you unplug the power source from the hard drive you will at least be able to watch Freeview, just not be able to record, pause live TV etc..( Which defeats the object of buying one in the first place !)

Tried Option 1 -
Switch Off 20 seconds,
Hold In Power Button ON Digibox,
Re-connect Power
Release Button as soon as Orange Light Blips,
Press 'Menu' then 'OK' Button Quickly,
Wait for Small Green light to Flash
& wait 60 seconds & Orange light will change to RED
**tried 3 times but worked eventually

I must have tried the instructions on the topup website about 20 times and it has finally worked. I used the first set of instructions, using MENU OK and not the second set using the UP DOWN buttons [the latter will cause you to lose your recordings.]
As they said, it is all in the timing , but I have no idea what I did differently from all the other times I tried.
Good luck. Persevere.

I had the same problem I got it to reset by :-

1 Power down set for 30 sec
2 Turn power back on whilst rapidly pressing standby button on remote
3 When orange light comes on press up down left right buttons on remote then do nothing
4 After about 60 sec's the light should turn red leave for a further 60 sec's and it should be reset
If at first you don't do it keep trying it worked for me

Same here. Took a bit of searching but sorted. Think they messed up a system upgrade or something.
Any way check out the top up tv website. Click on help centre and under "setup & trouble shooting" is some advice of what to do if you have a solid amber light. Wife was calling out the instructions, but it was the one that says switch off for 20 sec.

I have exactly the same problem. Topup TV support informs me that the following action will reset the box:

1) Unplug the box for 10 sec
2) Plug it back in and rapidly press the standby button on the remote until the light starts to flash orange.
3) Press up, down, left and right

In theory this should cause the box to reset, but it might take a few attempts. Unfortunately I haven't managed to get it to work on my box yet so I'd be grateful of any pointers.
