B&S 31q777 18.5 hp carb linkage question? Cub cadet lt1018 riding mower?

i just took apart the carb and cleaned it so fuel would flow through it, while i was putting it back together, i had a spare linkage part and cant figure out where it goes. it looks like a 3 inch long rigid wire with a slight bend in it and it wraps around like an elongated "p"shape. the engine runs fine with out it. i believe it connects in parallel with the throttle linkage and connects from the throttle on the carb to the remote cable, some how. it might be like a governor, not sure, i have looked everywhere and cant find an exploded view of the carb linkage, can anyone help?
