Mend Timex Ironman 30 lap

Fixing a Timex Ironman 30 lap watch?

The heart rate monitor starts measuring correctly but soon increases the display to 240BPM irrespective of exercise level- either I have died or there is a problem! Have bought conductive gel but no changes.

Any answers / advice?
