Renault scenic please remove card?

when i get in my 2004 renault scenic i put the card in the card reader and press the ignition button to start the car and it says steering locked even though it isn't then it says please remove card, untill i remove the card nothing happens, when i do remove the card the messege changes to steering not locked and then when i press the start button again there is just a clicking sound, i dont know if its relevent or not but during all this process the red immobiliser light in the centre of the display keeps flashing the same as when i'm out of the car, any help or ideas? the car is now sitting on a main road about a mile from my house as this happened while i was out and cause it wont start i now cant move it, Thanks
