Dyson dc01 will not switch on?

Wire had broken inside the rubber surround where wire enters the switch. Took out dust container which hides the switch screw . Needed a hexagonal screw piece to undo screw. Cut out the broken wire and joined up with two small cable joiners which I separated. Wrapped tape round the cable to stop it pulling through the rubber surround. Reassembly the reverse. In all 20 fiddly minutes but machine firing well again.

I took the cover plate off inside where the switch is and found that one of the wires had burnt out inside the rubber grommet.Cut 3" off the old cable and replace. Now working again

Mine stop for no reason at all. I is a animal dc07. It was the switch like above but was a quick connent that came undone. Thanks

A common fault in the dc01 is the power connection to the power switch coming loose. The switch is removed by putting something sharp down the side of the switch and pulling it up and out (quite awkward). You can then resolder or reconnect the connection. Loads of Dysons are thrown away because of this problem.
