nigel is basically correct. you just need to know that there are two marks on the camshaft pulley. The mark that needs to line up with the triangle on the casing is the one that also lines up with the dowell on the pulley.

Hi Colin, on your engine if the cambelt breaks there is a large chance that piston to valve damage will happen!!! if you have ruled out this damage you need to get the #1 piston on TDC this should mean that a dot on the crankshaft pulley aligns with a mark on the engine casing and then align the camshaft dot with a triangle mark on the cylinder head then the engine is timed The firing order is 1,3,2
