I had the same problem with the display. I swapped the rechargeable batteries with the working extension and now it works again. Looks like the cradle was not re-charging the batteries even though it was powered and the red light on the cradle was on.. I am going to see if it cannot recharge this set too. If not then problem with the power. I also removed the cable from the base and re-plugged it in just in case this was loose.
