how can i fix my smeg dishwasher?

i have a slimline integrated smeg dishwasher, when i open the door and push the on button down the only light that comes on is the one by the pic of a saucepan, it won't move onto another programe and even on this programe will not start up when the door is closed? any ideas as the manual doesn't say anything about this?
