Why is my speedometer on my 98 fiat ducato not working?

I would guess that the speedo cable is broken. I have a problem with mine but it is trying to fit the cable back onto the speedo. I had it disconnected to fix a problem with my temp gauge. I do not have fingers 10 inches long and made of steel. You can remove the dash by removing the small screws on each side. As you pull the assm out you will disconnect the cable. If you pull it gently it will come out of the sheath. If it is broken you will have a broben end, if not the end will have a square end. If broben you will have to remove the end at the gearbox and pull out the rest of the cable. A new one can then be slipped in with some lube. If you take it to a garage I would suspect a one hour charge to fix it. Cheers
