Mend Fordson Power Major Tractor Engine

timeing up engine?

i have an old 1960 fordson power major i have started to put it back together and it will not fire on all cylinders i belive the engine needs timeing up and im not perfectaly sure how to do this wen it starts it runs for bout 4 secs and bells out black oily smoke
