Mend Fisher & Paykel 708 Problem Lights Lid

wahshing machine problem?

F&P smartdrive 708, lights on and ready, lid down, the machine overflows with water. had to bypass the lid sensor by shorting it out to make machine fill. now it will not stop even when set to auto level sense. can anyone help???
