Chrysler neon rt speedometer not working?

When starting the neon rt one morning all the gauges flicked irratically and since then the speedometer needle is fully over anticlockwise and shows underneath the needle rest as though it has accelerated to its furthest point.
All other gauges are working fine including the mile ometer.

Any ideas?
