emachine?

i tried to get into safe mode, but it just froze at the same point. and now it will not even let me try that again.

it seems odd to me that with the restore option on the main bootscreen it cannot fix this. emachines should install a better repair option.

the type of pc this is, is a " emachine xp home edition " it's about 2 1/2 years old

2 things i'm wondering about are

1- a couple of times i had problems with starting a machine with 98 on it, and used a startup disk from somebody elses computer. once it started then i just had to run a system check and reboot and the machine was fine.

if i'm able to get to get someone to burn a startup disk for xp, would that trick work on this?


2- i'm not sure of whats on the disk that came with this pc, but it seems like it should contain the info for a complete install. does anyone know much about emachines and what command i would use to do this? even if i lose all the programs installed, i have all of the program installs backed up on the external drive. along with copy's of most other info and files that i keep on my pc. yes it will be a pain to reload all of that, but at least it will be up and running.
