Mend Shower Wont Turn

Shower won't turn on?

My son's friend used my shower and I think he has turned it off too forcefully, now it will not switch on.
I don't want to try to force it incase it makes it worse.
I have taken the front panel off to have a look and see how the cogs fit together, but I can't get it to move. Help would be appreciated, don't want to call a plumber unless necessary.
