Problems with a valiant combi boiler?

My girlfriend has just returned to her flat find that the central heating has stopped working and there is no hot water on tap.
The pilot light on the combi boiler remains on and when you switch on the radiator switch the gas jets open up and shut down to pilot status in approx 3 seconds.
