will not crank?

i have a 20hp briggs on a sears garden tractor,and i went to start it ,and it would not crank over,and after messing around with it .I found that with the key on i could jump across the solinod and it woud start ,is the sol are the ign switch bad

Sorry but forgot to tell ya to got www.sears.com and follow directions and you cn find a schematic of wiring harness and owners manual ect

using a test lite check small wire from ing switch and see if when you turn on to start if the lite comes on if it does its a faulty coil if not its the switch or even posibly a safety switch

Replace solenoid first, then check the wire from starter switch to starter solenoid, then chack wire on starter switch, if it will not start OK, then replace starter switch.
