i have a peugeot 306 and it wont start?

hi i have a peugeot 306 lx (with no keypad) and when i try to start the car by turning the key as usual but nothing happens it dosn't even turn over is this an immobiliser issue or something else. normally once i do finally mangae to start it by repitidly turning the ket back and forth and i go to start it again it starts fine please help as this is driving me nuts as i have tried everything else (jump starting,battery charger,booster /starter) many thanks
