How can i fix my BT synergy 4100 cordless digital phones?

When outside caller rings home number they can hear the ringing tone and can then go through to leave a message on answer phone. But on cordless phone in house there is no dialling tone to ring out or when outsiders ring you cannot hear the phone ringing.thanks sue
