webcam freezes yahoo?

not an answer but a question: i have an acer laptop that runs Windows 7. my Yahoo messanger webcam freezes.

there is no "run" button in my start window... someone help!!!

This problem has existed for years on Yahoo Messenger. I have written to them about it several times but they don't seem interested in fixing it. They just want to expose you to more and more advertising. SHAME ON YOU, YAHOO!

Hi i m sorry i have no answer instead i have same question,with yahoo messenger 9 my web cam freezes when i try to broadcast web cam.I have tried everything given in the yahoo questions/answers [ http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger9/webcam/index.html ]regarding messenger/web cam but no luck. Web cam is working fine with yahoo messenger 800506 . Any one found any solution for this problem? web cam is creative web cam /Operating system is windows Xp

1. Shut down Yahoo! Messenger if it is currently running.
2. From the Windows "Start" menu at the left bottom of your screen, click "Run."
3. From the input area, type regedit and press "Enter." The registry editor application should open.
4. On the left side, expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder (or key), then expand the "Software" folder under it and select "Yahoo."
5. If there is a "Webcam" folder, go to the next step. If there is no "Webcam" under the "Yahoo" folder, go to the "Edit" menu and click "New Key" and type "Webcam."
6. Select the "Webcam" folder.
7. From the "Edit" menu click on "New" then "DWORD Value" and type "UseVFW" without any spaces.
8. Double-click on the entry "UseVFW" and change the entry in Value data to "1." Then click "OK."
9. Exit the Registry Editor application.
10. Restart Yahoo! Messenger and try starting your webcam by clicking "Start My Webcam" from the "Messenger" menu located in the Yahoo! Messenger window.

Note: If you are on Windows 2000 or XP, you must be logged in as an administrator for these registry entries to be updated successfully.

right what uve got to do is unplug ur webcam wipe it and then plug it back in then go to www.alexisgames.piczo.com that will put a patch file on it automatcily on your pc then u will get the webcam working agen it will be ok and it will be clear as well

I tried the fix mentioned above as per Yahoo's instructions and my webcam still freezes up with Yahoo and MSN. Nothing I have tried works..................anyone????

I'm using a Logitech QuickCam Fusion, and am experiencing the same problem. I tried the above regedit solution, and it didn't work. Any other possibilities for this issue?

I apologize to the original poster on some other bbs that found this... but this did work for me.
Trying to open webcam in Yahoo causes it to freeze & can't close program... must reboot system to clear it. Appears to be a kernel loop caused my a missing registry key.

What this system had:
Yahoo 7.0 w/ voice
USB webcam - tried two... LogiTech QuickCam Express & generic digicam/webcam from WallyWorld.
WinXP Home SP2
1gb ram
1ghz Thunderbird AMD
Ancient Gigabyte MB

Full credit for finding this solution goes to the unnamed hero(ine) I am plagarizing in toto... but then again, they probably got it from the Yahoo site so anyhoo...:

If Messenger is crashing when you try to broascast your Webcam, please try the following fix:

Anyone else have this trouble? I had to create a registry key for it. If you go to Yahoo help and click webcams, you'll see it.
