why is msn taking so long to sign in?

i recently just got a laptop, and msn was taking a long time to sign in. i loooked up how to fix the problem, it suggested to reinstall windows live messenger. so i did, but i tried to sign in again, and it took twice as long. can anybody PLEASE help me?? =]
