How can I fix my washer\dryer, Hotpoint Aquarius, WD440?

I am having a problem switching of these buttons on my Hotpoint WD440 washer\dryer:

drying high heat,
reduce creases,
rinse hold,
extra rinse.

I have tried restarting the machine and putting the machine through a wash and dry cycle. Nothing seems to be working, how do I switch them off when not needed. Please help.

Hotpoint 'reliably' inform me that turning the machine off, unpluging it from the wall and leaving it like that for more that 30 mins will fix the problem (it should reset the machine). My problem turned out to be slightly more involved so I couldn't put this 'old wives tale' to the test! - but it'll not cost you anything to try.
