golf mk3 cuts out?

Golf GTI Mk 3 - After about 10-15 mins car cuts out and will not fire up, but you cannot hear the fuel pump when ignition key has been turned, if you leave the car for 5mins then it runs ok, have replaced fuel pump relay, but trouble still persists.

I know this is a bit late but it will help someone else. Had the same problem mainly in wet weather. Found the wire insulation worn through that came from the CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR found lower front of engine. Replaced this and everything was fine.
