car losiong revs?

my 2004 vauxhall vectra estate at times it will almost cut out losing revs but when switch off and restart it goes back to normal this happens at random
i can go 2 or 3 days with nothing then it starts again revs drop and shoot up between 5 and 10,00 revs can you help ps nothing comes up on dash board
