electric dryer hums?

my wife went to turn on our kenmore electric dryer and it flashed somewhere in the back. now all it does is hum when you push the start switch. I pulled off the back and ohmed out the thermal fuses and they all read 0 or minimal ohms. Is my motor bad? and is there a way to test it
