That doesn't sound unreasonable, except that I doubt it is the fan belt. I think your van is front wheel drive with an electric cooling fan. There are two belts you may have which need maintenance - a cam belt (timing belt) which is CRITICAL to the life of your engine and must be changed as per schedule or earlier. You will probably also have a belt that drives the alternator, power steering and a/c if fitted. If that breaks you'll come to a halt and need breakdown assistance. If you lose your power steering suddenly you could end up in an accident so I wouldn't skimp on that one either!
