Homelite chain saw mod 330 start problem?

When pulling starter cord the excertion needed is too much to turn the motor over. What do you suggest.

Take the spark plug out to see if the cylinder is full of fuel.
If it is pull the cord to purge it, replace the plug with a new one and try to start it.
