I've repaired a number of Xbox 360 RROD by use of heat. More specifically by unplugging the 2 fans connector (on the motherboard) then powering up the Xbox (turned unside down so the the heat rises onto the soldered connections). Once the thermal protection cuts in (2 flashing LEDS on the left side), switch off the Xbox, reconnect the power lead on the motherboard for the 2 fans, vacuum out the fluff from the rear of the case near the fans and then I found the Xbox worked OK

Use Microsoft Xbox website. I got the three red lights pre-Xmas. Had the xbox collected by UPS on Xmas eve, back by first week of Jan. Microsoft had exchanged and reconditionned the unit - FOR FREE. What makes this really pleasing is that I had bought the Xbox off ebay about 18months ago and did not have a receipt. Microsoft get a lot of bad press, but on this issue, well done.

if it has all 4 red lights lit up it means there is a loose/faulty wire somewhere

wrap it up in 2 towels for 15-20 min whilst still on, then turn it off for 15-20 mins to cool down.
then it should work for a while again....
