2002 Ford Focus turn signs are melting the red plastic?

How can I avoid replacing another red plastic tail light housing for my 200 Ford Focus? When the turn signals need replacing I discovered that they had melted the red plastic housing. This is getting expensive and perhaps dangerous. Thanks

Replacing the rear wire harness seems to have stopped the problem. It also solved the problem of the rear wiper not working, the cyclopes light not working, and the rear hatch opening at will.
