my copper hot water cylinder is split, can it be soldered?

my plumber tryed fitting a new gate valve in the 22mm copper pipe that runs to the top of the cylinder.in doing so the pipe was lifted up enough to split the cylinder where the pipe is fixed to it.
is it possible to solder it,or is this to dangerous.

If the cylinder you are referring to is an open vent system ( not pressurised) and if the crack is not too large what I would do is cut all the crack out, then fit a new flange which can be done by soldering, wiping a joint, or a mechanical "Essex Flange" .The latter is handy as it is a clever design that can be inserted from the outside and the tightened with a back nut.
It really depends on where the crack is exactly and the size of it if this can be done.
