stop tap?

There is no "normal" position - my plumber spent 10 minutes looking for our stop tap. Best ask a neighbour in a similar property if you can but as houses are altered over the years the stop-cock may get moved. Most houses I have lived in in the UK have also had stop taps outside on the pavement. Internal stop taps are often in the kitchen under the sink.
