My Bernina 801 doesn't sew?

The light is on, but it won't go. I've had the foot pedal replaced twice in the last 25 years, and this seems the same. Having trouble finding a new pedal and more trouble affording what I'm finding. Is there any way to fix this myself? This is a type 290 foot pedal. The machine itself is in excellent condition; I've kept it very clean and maintained.
