Thanks Pete for this - it worked just as you described. I rescued a colour catcher from my filter!

followed the help thanks, though was a struggle to undo and was concerned about breaking it. Turned out to be a hair grip and some staples! Working perfectly again now thank you

Had the same issue - tried the clockwise twist etc with pliers then the damn removable bung shattered so now i cant grab it to take it out! so be careful not to use too much force.

Ditto the above...saved me £50 too! Told the Indesit people that their manual should include instructions pertaining to turning the filter clockwise first. I guess it's because it's jammed up with coins, etc and you have to waggle it free!

the filter is on the bottom right hand side of the machine behind the removable front panel at the bottom of the washing machine. the filter bung is normally quite tight to thread out so use a pair of pliers and try to turn bung clockwise slightly then back anti clockwise sometimes its best to repeat this until bung turns anti clockwise with ease then thread it right out and remove any foreign objects that may be blocking the impeller eg coins, tissues, underwires of bra,s. then replace bung and front panel, good luck

Hi All

Pete is dead right...I thought the filter cap was going to break because it was so tight!!

Turned it clockwise about a quarter of a turn and then anticlockwise all the way out..

from the coinage I found inside I could have bought a new machine!

I had the same sort of problem. Using a pair of mole grips and turning the filter counter clockwise I managed to remove the filter. What you see then is the pump impeller. I found a bra wire jammed in the impeller which caused the pump to jam. Once this was removed the pump worked fine. Saved 50 quid call out charge

Hi Natalie,

Out WT540 was showing some flashing indicators this week, and I was wondering the same. If you remove the plastic kit plate from the bottom of the machine, you will see the pump filter enclosure bottom right. It's not easy to remove though. It will turn one eighth of the way anti-clockwise, but no further. What you need to do is, with a pair of strong pliars, turn it clockwise first - half a turn or so, and then you will find that you will/should be able to turn it anti-clockwise all the way out. You'll probably still need the pliars though. You will find some water seeping out, so have a cloth ready. You can then remove the curtain hooks, pieces of metal, cotton buds and general fluff. Once done replace the filter and hopefully away you go.
