I have fitted a 1 gang 2 way dimmer switch to my lounge light, replacing the old plastic on/off switch. The switch operates and the light gradually gets brighter when switched on and reduces when switched off but I can't seem to stop it where I want???????????

Do you mean a double dimmer in a one gang switch? Or is it a light that is operated from 2 separate switches? If the latter, it could explain the problem.
