How do I get access to the motor in my Miele Cat & Dog vacuum?

i was going to spend £69.50 on a repair that i could ill afford. iwas so glad when you said that it was unlikely to be the motor. i have an older model but found the three screws undid the on off button lid and guess what found that a tiny fragment of plastic had come off in the compartment stopping the on off button from compressing therfore it would not come on. guess what my vac is purring like a baby. many many thanks to you all. being a single parent woman i have no mney so i have to be savvy!

Unless you've sucked up a great deal of water with your Miele, it's not the motor. My guess would be the cord reel. If you open the bag door cover and gently squeeze the two places where it attaches to the main canister and pull upward it will come off completely. This will reveal several screws. Removing these screws will reveal a few more. Then the upper and the lower halves will come apart giving you access to everything. A simple continuity test will tell you whether the problem is with the switch, cord or cord reel. Best of luck mate.
