I have had a problem with boiler cutting out also knocking alot. Had an engineer to service it, which he said the burner was corroded and parts not available.
Removing the burner their was just a disk corroded in front of the nozzle which i believe is a static disk and the part is available. Will this part solve my problems? what does it do ? do i need it?
The reason that the static disk burns out is because the air shutter is not adjusted correctly. Try setting the shutter to about 1.5, I had mine at 5 and it burnt out static disks in about 8 months. Replacements are fairly easy to produce.

Yes you do need the static disc. I made a replacement myself but it is far more critical than it first appears. it took 2 attempts to get it right and I have got good workshop facilities.

yeah the static disc holds heat to ensure continued consistent combustion and disperses the flame around the boiler.
the electrode gap should be 3.5 mm and should be around 6.5 mm away from nozzle.
hope this helps.
boiler can run ok with little or no disc but can run really badly or not at all!! luck i guess

Would you by any chance have the electrode settings gap and distance from nozzle settings any idea where i could get the manual

what does the static disk do?
I read somewhere else that someone had run successfully without one. I can only gather that it helps shape the flame.

yes it sounds like the static disc needs replacing there cheapish and are available from www.heating-parts.co.uk.
they should be replaced with annual service.
if you do decide to replace the whole boiler i would be interested in buying the parts for spares for my 430 which is currently burning out static discs far too quickly (maybe faulty air adjuster).
