gas pipe?

As long as you can achieve 20mbar working pressure you are ok,and it all depands how far your gas meter is from your boiler. To achieve the correct gas working pressure at a appliance you would need to have a pipe size at least 22mm normly,but in some cases one has to increase the pipe size to 28mm to achieve the correct gas working pressure. so let the engineer decide what is best for you.

he wants to do the work to your property but does not want to end up with the burdon of having a at risk gas installation on his hands. a few checks would see what work needs done.

The main thing to check would be the appliance working pressure. If the pressure is 20mbar then its working at designed pressure and no one could really kick up too big a stink. If not its undersized pipework and will 100% need renewed

Installer needs to comply with regulations else commits criminal act. If regs say 22mm pipe then that's the end of it - has no discretion. Your lack of previous trouble and age of installation have no bearing on his obligations.

Ask what the regulations say.
