Peugeot timing belt slip, ruin engine?

If my timing belt slips/snaps on a peugeot 406 turbo diesel 1.9 will it ruin the engine?

Yes very much so. All the internal moving parts meet in the middle - Bent con-rods, bent valves, smashed piston heads.
