We've just had the same problem with our 1997 Ford Explorer. We parked it outside a Fire Station, went shopping at Tescos, and when we came to start it - there was nothing. The lights flashed and the fob blinked red but it wouldn't start. We thought it was the fob battery but the red light flashed on the fob and the car lights were flashing on & off. We tried the immobiliser near the receiver which is located near the back panels / tool box area but nothing. The immobiliser signal was obviously being jammed somehow and we then realised we had parked next to a Fire Station. The only thing I could think of was that the Fire Station communication system was blocking our immobiliser. So the only thing to do was to tow the car away from the Fire Station (which we couldn't do as no one to help) or to somehow block the signal from the Fire Station. So I went back into Tesco's to buy a roll of Tin Foil !!! We tore off a large sheet of foil, held it up near the back panel where the main receiver is, put the immobiliser fob behind the foil, waited for a minute and then pressed the immobiliser fob. It worked immediately !!! The foil blocked the signal enough for the immobiliser to work. We quickly started the car and got the hell out of there !!! So from now on, we'll not be parking the Explorer near a Police Station, Hospital or Fire Station and we'll always carry a roll of tin foil with us !!!!!
