Mend Singer Sewing Machine Thread Repair

Singer sewing machine - picking up bottom thread?

I broke a needle recently. when I replaced it, the top thread no longer picked up the bottom thread. Have I bust the machine or is it mendable by me or will I have to take it to a shop?
