Its what holds the spinning shaft on the deck for the cutting blade.

Stens makes an aftermarket housing. It's Stens P/N 285-435
It's available online from M&D Mower for $32.50

The Mandrel Housing your looking for is Murray P/N 055962
Murray was recently bought by Briggs and Stratton. Due to the change over getting parts or support is difficult at this time.
