Thanks for the advice. Still relevant in 2022!! A nice reliable appliance. Creda must hate that it lasts some 20 years or so.

Allan,

Thanks for the great instructions. I just used them to replace the belt on my 37742 (Hotpoint Creda) model. Took about 45 minutes start to finish.

A couple extra points to make the job easier:
1) Have a vacuum on hand. The machine will be dusty.
2) A bit of WD40 on the tension rollers doesn't seem to hurt.
3) Do the job near a wall or similar so you can prop up the front panel without having to put it on the ground. Mine wouldn't reach.

Cheers eh!

I have just replaced the belt on my Creda Reversair Sensadry model 37650. I think this is similar to a number of Creda/Hotpoint models where you remove the front to replace the belt. You should be able to tell from the description below if this applies to your model. The steps below worked for me. Follow them at your own risk. Not the easiest repair, but a lot easier than I expected given descriptions elsewhere in this forum.

Replacement belt no 1700442 1894H7 purchased on eBay – often seems to be the easiest place to get spares these days.

Remove two screws from rear of top and slide back to remove

Prise off dial; remove two screws holding plastic panel in place; remove two wires from hi/lo heat switch; hammer three plastic lugs from rear to disengage from spring clips (may need to use punch on middle one to get access)

Lay machine on back to avoid stressing rear spindle when front is removed

Remove screws from narrow panel at bottom of front and remove panel

Remove three screws from top of front panel

Remove two screws holding timer control in place, and cable tie, to give more movement when panel is removed

Lift front panel away from drum carefully (wires still attached)

Remove two wires from sensor on ventilation duct at bottom left

The front panel should now be connected only by the wiring loom and there should be plenty of movement to allow you to clean inside the machine and fit the new belt over the drum.

Taking care not to damage the felt bearing, pay particular attention to cleaning fluff from around the drum seal to ensure easy refitting and avoid excessive friction.

Fit the belt over the drum ensuring grooved side inwards and no twists in the belt

Fit the belt over one of the tension rollers and the motor spindle – try to get it centred on the grooved part of the spindle rather than butted against the top lip. If you have trouble with this, you should be able to move it after fitting by turning the drum while applying gentle sideways pressure.

You should now be able to ease the belt over the second tension roller

Check that the drum turns and the belt is not twisted

Replace sensor wires

Refit front cover ensuring drum and vent pipe that goes from back to front are properly located

Replace all screws, bottom panel, timer control, top panel and control dial

Put machine back in upright position and switch on to check everything is working properly before refitting top panel.
