Be sure to unplug the VCR before you proceed to the next steps. The cover of the VCR can easily removed by removing the screws on the sides and/or back. Once removed you will find that the tape is usually wrapped around the pins or the heads of the VCR. Untangling the tape is usually simple. Once untangled from the inner mechanism of the VCR, the cassette can be carefully pulled from the front opening of the VCR.
If the tape was important you can attempt to repair it yourself or send it to a professional. They usually charge around $20 to repair and can transfer the contents of the tape to DVD for an additional fee.
