My mower won't cut ?

I just bought a used L1000 Craftsman riding lawnmower and it starts fine but when I lower the
blade it doesn't do anything. Is there a lever to engage the blade???

Yes there is. On most Craftsman models, it's a lever on the dash that moves in an upside 'J' shaped slot. Move 'UP' to engage the drive.
