escort starting problem after fuel filter change?

Looking for some advice.

My escort 1998 diesel van was sat for four months, Ive just started using it, been doing 40mile round trips to work each day for 12 days. The last few days the van has been losing power on and off, feels like the fuels running out (but it isnt). Ive just changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel is reaching all four injectors by priming it. Now it wont start at all, i just cant understand it although I had problems it was starting straight away every time and all Ive done is change the fuel filter and made sure fuel is reaching the injectors and it just wont turn over.....any ideas?????

thanks for replying.

yes it will crank but wont turn over, at first after changing fuel filter it turned over for a few seconds then died, Im thinking Ive got air in the system. Ive had the battery on charge all night Im going to fit it soon and then prime the system again. Ive been reading on here and I think my original problem could be the pump diaphragm, others seem to have had similar issues to me and this has been the cause.

do you mean it wont crank if so then the batery is suspect.diesels dont use a lot of batery power when runing,so quite posible the alternator is under charging and the batery is flat.min13.5 volts to14.5 volts when runing.jump start and test outputs.if starting probs are not due to flat batery,first remove fuel filer cap and check the vent hole is not blocked,then check the new filter is fuly secured ie no air leaks.If possible remove fuel line from tank and blow compersed air back into tank in case of accumulated gunk in pick up.vehicle laid up for any length of time can pick up some wierd faults.something as simple as a dry batery could cause ur symptoms.
