Why do I have to pump the gas pedel so much to start the motor?
Why do I have to pump the gas pedel 10 to 15 times before the engine will start after setting over night or longer. Once it starts and warms up it will restart and run like a electric motor the rest of the day with out pumping gas pedel. I put a carb. kit in it with out any change. It's a 78 chev. 350 ci.4x4 3/4 ton. No problem with fuel pump or gas filter on carb. It has done this for years, what the answer?
If the lift pump is mechanical and you cannot get a replacement you might be able to replace it with an electric pump that switches on when you turn on the ignition.
This way the fuel gets to the primes the carb as soonas as you turn on the ignition - instant starting

its the fuel lift pump,each time you press the pedal it sprays fuel in hence starting faulty fuel pump,if you leave it,it will get worse
