motor stalls when clutch is released?

I have a poulan riding lawnmower and when running and you let up on the clutch in neutral or in gear the motor kills.

Does the same thing happen when you engage the blades? If so, I would suspect a faulty seat switch.

If not, suspect a faulty brake/clutch interlock switch.
