Mend Battery Starter Motor Starting Problem

Car battery or starter motor?

When I place cables on the car battery i,m able to start the car, do I need a new starter motor or new battery. How can I test?

u really need a meter,connect to battery terminals & start car,if it reads less than 13.5volts then the alternator is not charging the battery & needs fixed.
