Pulse could not help with this but did start me on a a path that led to the solution. Eventually I got to JCB customer service (08456021381) who out me onto this site: http://www.gr8spares.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=17. But the part was not listed there so back to Customer Services and they gave me the telephone number of Solent Tools (Tel: 02380578057, web: http://www.solenttools.co.uk/ ) who are able to import a range of primer pump bulbs. They couldn't find my saw (PCS38AF) listed but were very helpful and asked me to accurately measure the outside diameter of the bulb and give a description. They had the part in stock (just under £8 delivered) and sent it first class. I received next day. I just completed the repair and have a working saw again! The bulb is a push fit - just undo 3 screws on the air filter cover to get at it and lever out the plastic retaining prongs after taking off the plastic fuel pipes. Note which colour pipe goes on which internal tube on the pump - one is longer than the other. Assembly is easy in reverse order if you note that there is a projection on the bulb that fits in a cut-out on the saw. Be careful not to damage the prongs on the new bulb - they are a bit delicate. Saved me the price of a new saw. Thank you Solent!
