I have tried all of the above and still is slow to start. My computer either has normal diagnostic or selective start up options under msconfig.
This is driving me insane.

You dont say which operating system your running so I assume its Windows XP.
A slow load up is usually caused by having a lot of programmes in the Start Up menu. Unless you have declined the offer, every time you add a new programme, it has probably also been added to the list of programmes that the computer has to open up.
This is not a job to be rushed. Take care and be methodical.
Click-Start
Click-Run and type 'msconfig' then click OK
The system configuration page will appear.
Click the 'Start Up' tab and all the programmes that your computer has to start up each time will be listed.
Some of those programmes are SYSTEM programmes which are essential to run the computer. As a general rule they tend to be near the top of the list.
Scroll down to the bottom and work your way up unticking all those which you can activate from the normal menu or desktop icon.
If you cant read the full title of the programme entry-click on the right hand box line and drag it to the right to reveal more of the programme name.
Make a list of all the programmes you untick and regularly stop and ensure your computer hasn't had an essential programme unticked. You will need to:- Click the CUSTOM START UP box.
Click APPLY, then OK.
If the computer does not behave properly just go back and re-tick the relevant programme entry .
The start up configuration needs to be kept in the CUSTOM mode else it will revert to full prog. startup.
Ignore and warning messages about being in custom mode, they will eventually stop.
If it all goes pear shaped revert to normal mode start up and only untick programmes one at a time then test the start up performance.
